Long Vowel Words
What are Long Vowels
English alphabets are divided among consonants and vowels. Vowels are a, e, i, o, and u, whereas the rest of the alphabets are consonants. Long vowels refer to those vowels which are pronounced the same way as the name of the letter is pronounced. These vowels are relatively easier to learn, pronounce, distinguish and read. Also, long vowels are very easier to recognize in words rather than guessing their sound without their use in a word.
The long vowels usually follow a pattern that is the vowel-consonant-e, i.e. late, cake, gate, make, scene, lone, queue, statue, and cue. While you read these words, notice the vowel sound that you make. Let’s have a look at the following examples to equip ourselves better with the long vowels.
