Common Nouns
As the name suggests, these nouns are common and can be a word that refers to people, places, things, animals, or ideas in a general manner. For example :

Proper Nouns
Proper nouns refer to specific words that are names, places, and things. For example :

Compound Nouns
Nouns common or proper, become compound nouns when more than two nouns come together to form a single word. Compound nouns have three forms. They have either closed forms, hyphenated forms, or open forms. The examples for these three compound forms are written below.

Closed-form compound nouns are Toothpaste, football, heartache, haircut, smartphone, etc. these compound nouns do not have any space in the middle.

Hyphenated forms of compound nouns are separated by a hyphen, for example, son-in-law, dry-cleaning, long-term, two-fold, check-in.

Open forms of compound nouns refer to the nouns that are separate but considered as a single word. For example, swimming pool, peanut butter, ice cream, hot dog, etc.


Countable Nouns
Countable nouns refer to the nouns that can be counted, be it singular or plural. These countable nouns can be either things, places, ideas, or people. Countable nouns can be used in singular or plural tenses. For example:
– There are ten restaurants in New York.
– How many books are there in your bag?


Uncountable Nouns
Uncountable nouns are those nouns that cannot be counted. These nouns are always used in a singular sense instead of a plural. Examples for uncountable are written below:
– You need to throw the garbage.
– How much water is there in the lake?

Notice that garbage and water are uncountable nouns as we cannot measure them, unlike the countable nouns.
