What are Action Verbs

Verbs are an essential part of the English language. There are several kinds of verbs i.e. transitive, intransitive, auxiliary verbs, linking verbs, and action verbs. These three forms of verbs are related to movement in different capacities.

An action verb is a word that specifically shows the movement or an action that the subject is doing. For example, run, fly, chase, sleep, etc. Since they are widely used in the English language, it is important to learn their usage for effective speaking and writing. Sentences with action verbs follow the pattern of the subject- action verb- sentence. Let’s see a few examples:
– He is eating ice cream. Eating is the action verb as it tells us what the subject is doing.
– She rejected my proposal. Rejected is the action verb, describing what the subject did.
